I'm an optimist and always have hope for the future for my race, a
better future and there is no reason why everyone can't live the same life I've
had. I'm a Trekkie, so it's just like the future Gene Roddenberry wanted - seems easy, no boundaries, money, power unimportant, we all work and give our talents for the better good. Doesn't matter what colour you are or what sex, education equality for all and we are selfless and brave. Too Good to be true? I do hope not or it's all been in vain.
Reality is somewhat less edifying and we are truly frightened we are
going to go extinct or live in a man-made hell controlled by a few evil beings
and many articulate that fear in Indie books. Well the mainstream don't want
anything upsetting the masters now do they? I've not much time for reading
especially in the summer months, tend to do more in the darker months and of course when I'm sick and unable to do much articulating of my own. I love sci-fi and fantasy but lately, because of Indie, I've been crossing to other genres,
I'm not fearful of vampires or Zombies but they so beautifully articulate our
fears as does the plentiful dystopian hard Sci-fi - some of which is excellent
and does frighten me.
I've tried to put forward my ideas in fewer words on twitter but when I read back what I've tweeted so often it isn't really making the sense that it could in more words; hence this blog. As I've said before "
Zoms and Vamps are really about; Zoms are we, stupid, bad TV, no control over anything, falling apart-vamps are blood sucking controllers."
I've been aware for a long while that our hard fought battles for democracy are just an illusion and now many more are saying the same, the rich and powerful are still in control for whatever sick, perverse reason (yeah ok, usually money and more money, then what?) For some strange reason, they want to harm us and our world and their cackling laughter pervades our dreams. Who are these mysterious beings. They are not mysterious at all, large corporations usually, and the ways they manage us is not short of brilliant, attach your clever controller to the brain of the susceptible and let them do all the work, I'll repeat brilliant, but cruel nonetheless and the reason we are not making the advances we should, for we have the intelligence to make true all Gene Roddenbury's dreams and much more; we could travel to the stars...
Nothing new there of course, but once they were more obvious, for they were sat on thrones, plotting and making sure they and their descendants kept sitting on them. (Yes, yes I know, Game Of Thrones - well it's a lot milder than what went on in history, but I take your point).
Here I must mention that book I reviewed on Goodreads Laura
Knight-Jadczyk's The Secret History of the World and how to get out alive. I was almost seduced, me the sane, scientific one who always needs proof or it goes into the " interesting but more research required folder". I fought against a belief that inter-dimensional snakes; soul-eaters fed on our souls and when they'd finished they left the soul-less amongst us to kill, wage wars and make slaves of us. Why, because the start was very well written, non-socially correct history maybe but all the more refreshing for that. Then I was almost seduced by the latter half, for a few seconds admittedly - but still....fascinating and I could see suddenly how many might be seduced by ideas that had no basis in reality, if I was nearly seduced then how many others might be?....yes fascinating but very, very disturbing. She says we are losing the battle at about 50/50 souled and soul-less, and funny enough that was the same percentage the scientists were saying, well not about soul-sucking snakes of course, but those who are easily seduced by the oddest ideas. Fascinating oh yes. Of course I don't believe in the snakes but I did see another review that said if she'd sold it as fiction and not reality she would have blitzed the best-seller lists and I think actually spread her ideas further. Creepy eh?
I woke up this morning with this blog pretty well-written.
Why?
Firstly
youtube.com/watch?v=7NPC47qMJVg … Michio Kaku's "Will Mankind Destroy Itself?' summed it all up so much better than I ever could. Well he is much smarter than I am.
Secondly
was watching BBC's Click, as I always do, a great way to keep up with new
technology, when I had a Eureka moment, as did my husband. They were talking to Woz, a really nice bloke, about upcoming technology in smart phones - interesting -love the idea of a flexible screen and of course my mind
immediately thought "now what use could that be used for in more serious
applications".....when I realised there might be no serious stuff, the smart
phone might be sucking all our clever youth's energies in just making new apps and smart phones, that might be the end result. I love networking but were we just walking into a dark tunnel to be trapped in endless nothing, all babbling into very clever pieces of technology while our Earth burned to the cackling of the controllers and I was truly frightened.
